Blood Pressure & Diabetes: What You Need to Know
Your heart is an amazing organ, but high blood pressure (hypertension) can make it work harder, leading to serious complications like heart attacks, strokes, and kidney damage. Diabetes increases the risk of hypertension, so staying on top of your heart health is important!
Did You Know? 4 out of 5 American Indian and Alaska Native people with diabetes also have hypertension? Anyone—even youth—can develop high blood pressure.
🔍 Know Your Numbers:
✔️ Normal: Less than 120/80
⚠️ Elevated: 120-129 / Less than 80
❗ High: 130+ / 80+
💖 Tips to Protect Your Heart:
✅ Take prescribed medications.
✅ Eat more fruits, veggies, and foods lower in sodium.
✅ Move more—start with 15-minute walks.
✅ Quit commercial to***co and avoid secondhand smoke.
✅ Manage stress and get enough sleep.
✅ Limit alcohol (1 drink/day for women, 2 for men).
