A couple Fridays ago, the Housatonic Railroad pulled a couple museum pieces from the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum in Lenox, Mass., and delivered them to Canaan, Conn., where they would go on display over the weekend for a town event. Last year's move saw GMTX leasers pull the remaining cars from the New Haven's Roger Williams set (modified Budd RDCs); and came as somewhat of a surprise - at the time, the HRRC had been known for years as a "closed-door" railroad where there was no fun of any kind. A local railfan with good connections was able to coordinate with the railroad to make a few photo stops where the diesels briefly cut away from Roger before continuing south. That went well, and thus HRRC management was open to doing it again.
Fast forward to 2025. This time, the GMTX units were unnecessary for two reasons - HRRC has finally acquired new power, and a privately-owned FL9 stored at the museum led Friday afternoon's southbound move. I couldn't get there Friday, but I was able to slip out early before work on Sunday, August 10th, and chase the northbound return trip. With the FL9 still facing south, HRRC used a new-to-them freight unit to lead the northbound move - a nice change of pace, after the HRRC used leasers for years after their previous fleet was beginning to fall apart.
Anyhow, enough rambling.
1 - After completing a brake test, Extra 1510 North departs Canaan, with the Roger Williams set in tow. The regular Sunday morning freight job was also working in the area, though I never saw it.
2 - Now over the line into far western Massachusetts, New Haven 2058 brings up the rear in the Ashley Falls section of Sheffield.
3 - Ducking between a couple buildings in Great Barrington.
