mud motors and salt water I'm looking at buying a used 23 mini surface drive. I'm in salt water a lot. Do i need the one that is specifically for salt water? I guess the ones for salt are galvanized. Fri Apr 20, 2012 6:34 am

mud motors and salt water It's probably worth the money to go with that one but if you don't keep it washed and you should be ok. Fri Apr 20, 2012 6:37 am

Re: mud motors and salt water Also, wrap your plug wires with electrical tape this will prevent future issues of the motor possibly grounding out because of salt spray that may come in contact with the plug wires. _________________ GTB 1860 w/ 2019 GTR40XD-HO Fri Apr 20, 2012 7:10 am

Re: mud motors and salt water I just ordered a 23 and was wondering the same thing for when i go floundering at the coast. I use corrosion x even on my outboard and figured that would be the ticket. That's stuff is awesome. Good tip about the plug wires. That's the kind of thing I was curious about and I wouldnt know to do. Sun Apr 22, 2012 5:58 pm

Re: mud motors and salt water i sprayed mine with Corrosion-X during hunting season. it works well but suck when working on your engine you get that cooked on gel all over you. but besides that it makes the engine look twice as old as it actually is. but no corrosion! Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:23 am

Re: mud motors and salt water I just sprayed corrosion x HD on mine, to thick I thought, but it worked but stunk the first hour or two, and is nasty to touch. _________________ 23gtr crossover Mikuni Mon Apr 23, 2012 5:25 pm

Re: mud motors and salt water I use a product called Salt-Away. Most of my stuff is in the salt water a good chunk of the time and this stuff does a great job of neutralizing salt issues; from corrosion issues on guns, scuba equipment, aluminum boats, and trailer brakes/lights. The stuff works pretty good. I'm hoping to have a surface drive in the next couple months and will use the stuff on it as well. Mon Apr 23, 2012 8:28 pm

mud motors and salt water Salt away works good isn't that the same stuff they have to flush the water pumps on outboards? I'm almost positive we use that brand for our Yamaha 250 _________________ GTB 1860 w/ 2019 GTR40XD-HO Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:25 pm
